A couple officers knocked on my door Friday afternoon (8th May) and asked me about the poisoning, I didn't know that much about it cos I threw my TV out over a year ago and have basically just heard about it on facebook.
They had a form with questions and blank spaces to fill in,
•What is your opinion of the use of 1080 in NZ?
•How do you go about opposing its use?
•What do you think about the people who contaminated baby formula?
•Do you know who did it?
•Do you approve of contaminating baby formula as a method of protesting 1080 use?
•Do you have any further information that might help our investigation?
I asked them why they came to me, they said they were paying a visit to many people who were critical of 1080, but were very vague as to how they found me and only gave a general impression that they found me online.
I asked if the GCSB had been involved which they flatly denied, saying the NZ Police and GCSB don't work together and are totally separate.
I tried to answer their questions as best I can, saying that I disapprove of 1080 use as monofluoroacetate is a fluoride compound (a level 6 biotoxin) and that it poisons the food chain and animals that eat the carcasses.
As such, the risk of collateral damage to native New Zealand birds was too great to continue its use.
I oppose its use by making internet memes, interviewing a few 1080 activists on occasion and have uploaded the Poisoning Paradise Documentary by the Graf Boys to my youtube channel to support their work.
How dare they risk the lives of infants? That's SICK!
I absolutely do NOT support that kind of action.
The people who contaminated the formula should be arrested, given a fair trial, and if found guilty of purposely contaminating baby formula, should be punished to the full extent of the law.
Activists opposed to 1080 are inherently pro-life, wishing to stop the deaths of animals in the bush and any protect the people unlucky enough to have been affected by it.
So for one of them to purposely contaminate baby formula seems out of character and leads me to believe that it was more likely an inside job, a self inflicted wound by the 1080 industry to demonize 1080 activists.
Being able to call them all "baby killers" would be a great propaganda tool.
It was (in my opinion) more likely someone with access, opportunity and probably some authority, the police should be pulling employee records and verify them for past criminal conduct and scrutinize their work/time codes looking for lapses in standard operating procedure.
I couldn't help them any further with their investigation as they wouldn't share any information about the case with me and so I couldn't offer any further opinions.
They were lovely cops, we had a few laughs, but just the fact that they showed up out of the blue to my house freaked me out big time and started making me a bit suspicious/paranoid, I mean, if just posting a few memes and interviewing a few 1080 activists warrants a visit from the NZ police, then maybe it's not just people opposed to 1080 that should be worried.
