The annual Bohemian Grove encampment begins today in the west county. Some of the world's wealthiest and most prominent men gather in the redwoods in Monte Rio for what is describes as "low jinks", comic play and a serious dramatic production in the final weekend. The identities of the participants are closely guarded and in the past have included U.S. Presidents, foreign heads of state and industrial barons. The number of protestors who turn out to demostrate against the gathering has dwindled in recent years. One activist says their numbers have gone down, distracted by more pressing issues.
